It's Friday...Friday...
Gotta get down on Friday...? (nah!)
Actually, Friday afternoons are usually my mall schedules. So after school today, I headed to the mall, and went straight to the bookstore.
It's really funny how the bookstore and the people looked. The shoppers were crowding in the Entertainment section, toy shelves, novelty items, and of course, on the cashier counters. People are really busy shopping for their luxuries, ahem... I mean needs. I even changed directions as I saw a family blocking my way. Really hassle.
I went to the Classical Novels section. Uh-oh. Ironic. I did not see anyone browsing the books there. I was the only one standing there looking for interesting "ancient" novels. Well, kinda good for me because I had the space, and I could even have the freedom to sit on the floor and look for worthy books I would buy.
Yes, I love classical novels. No, I'm not that too old. And another no, I don't consider myself old-fashioned.
For me, classical novels are the best ones. Well, they survived, and still flourishing up to now, or should I say, still being read by some as school requirements.
A lot of people will say that reading classical novels are so boring. Even my own best friend don't want to read a lot of novels in my shelf. She's much more inclined to contemporary ones. You know those chick flicks? Those are her favorites. I do own some copies, and read them. But, I still find my own peace while delving myself in classics. Not that I'm against those modern and contemporary writers. I still find a few of them worth reading. However, I am really sad thinking that a lot of people nowadays do not appreciate the masterpieces of the past. They know Shakespeare as a writer and poet. And that's it. Just a few people know Homer. Fewer people for Jane Austen, or even Frances Hodgson Burnett. (Maybe, it has to do with those Old English, hard-to-decipher terms)
People don't know that a lot of contemporary writers are inspired by these classical ones. They are the institution. They are the beginning.
I just want to pursue people on appreciating classical novels. But, if you're really a chick flick fan, go on. I'm not stopping you. I just want you to know that there's still published classical novels crowding on the bookstores and libraries, but not seen by many. I just want you to know that there's still books made centuries ago waiting for someone to pick them up and be read. I just want you to know that they're just there.
They are not in, but they used to be. They are interesting. Really amusing.
